Listening is the skill learners practice least actively — and it shows. Here is a method that works.

The 3-Listening Method 1. First listen: get the gist. No subtitles. 2. Second listen: with subtitles, note new words. 3. Third listen: shadow — repeat aloud with the audio.

Shadowing Repeat sentences right after the speaker, imitating rhythm and intonation. It builds both listening and speaking.

Start With Material You Know 80% If you understand less than 80%, the material is too hard. Step down a level.

Slow It Down — Then Speed It Up Most platforms let you slow audio to 0.75x. Master it there, then gradually speed up.

Transcribe Short Chunks Write down what you hear in 10-second chunks. Compare with the transcript. This is intense but incredibly effective.

Consistency Wins Ten minutes of active listening daily beats one hour weekly.

Our listening books include graded audio designed for exactly this method.
